Learning & Growing Day By Day

It was a busy, event-packed week on campus with major field trips across multiple grade levels and lots of learning through experiences!
  • 5th Grade at Boerne Outdoor Academy (BOA):Β Our 5th graders had an unforgettable experience at BOA! They spent time immersed in nature hiking, geocaching, and kayaking, learning outdoor science through rocketry, building team building skills, practicing patience and focus in archery, and creating lasting elementary memories.
  • 2nd Grade Field Trip to Devine Acres Farm:Β Our 2nd graders enjoyed a fantastic fall day at Devine Acres Farm! From exploring farm life to enjoying outdoor activities, it was a wonderful, hands-on learning adventure for all.
  • Kindergarten Magnet Lesson with Cibolo Nature Center:Β Our kindergarteners had a special visit from the Cibolo Nature Center! Educators led an engaging, hands-on science lesson all about the invisible forces of magnets.
  • Red Ribbon Week Starts Monday:Β Next week we kick off Red Ribbon Week as we focus on making healthy, positive life choices! Be sure to check out Ms. Maloney's Counselor Connections below for our upcoming theme days!
  • Book Character Parade Next Friday:Β We will wrap up next week with our annual Book Character Parade on Friday at 7:45 AM! Students are invited to dress up as their favorite character from a book. Parents are welcome to attend the parade! Come and stand along the front parent pick up sidewalk to cheer our favorite characters on!

Parade Reminders:
  • Bring Your Book:Β Students are encouraged to bring the matching book (or a drawn or printed picture of the cover) to carry during the parade!
  • Wearing Costumes:Β Students should arrive at school wearing their costumes over regular school clothes, or bring a simple costume in a bag that they can easily put on independently over their clothes before the parade.
  • Costume Safety:Β Please ensure all costumes are school-friendlyβ€”no scary characters, face masks/coverings, or weapon-like propsΒ are permitted. Costumes should be age-appropriate and allow students to move comfortably and participate safely in their regular school day routines.

Thank you for your ongoing support with all of our special events and traditions. Have a wonderful weekend!

With gratitude,
Mrs. Walker
VRES Principal

Nurse Header
Is your student feeling sick? As a reminder students will need to be excluded from school when they meet the following criteria in accordance with guidelines from the Texas Department of State Health Services:
  • Fever > 100.3Β° F - may return when fever free for 24 hoursΒ without the use of fever reducing medications
  • Diarrhea - may return after 24 hours without diarrhea
  • Vomiting - may return after 24 hours without vomiting
  • Pink eye - may return when symptom free or when released by medical provider
  • Strep throat - must be on antibiotic for 24 hours and meet fever criteria
Please use your best judgement when it comes to your student. If your child is showing signs/symptoms of illness, is not feeling well and/or requires treatment with medication prior to coming to school, we ask you to consider if it will interfere with their instruction time or classroom environment.Β

Per district policy, if the student is sick at home, the district allows for 5 excused absences for illness by parent note per semester. Anything over 5 "sick" absences from a parent will be unexcused. Excuse notes from a physician will always be considered excused as documented by the physician's return to school date. If a student is sent home by the nurse due to an illness, the absence is considered excused for the remainder of the day. Subsequent absences will be considered upon the student's return with a parent or doctor's note.

Calling All Dads! We Need You on Duty!

This month, we are launching our initiative focused specifically on our fathers, grandfathers, and father figures:Β Dads on Duty.

We are making a dedicated push this October to increase male presence in our hallways, lunchrooms, and playgrounds. Research and experience show that having positive male role models actively involved in the school day boosts student confidence, promotes positive behavior, and shows our kids that their education matters to the men in their lives.

We are looking for dads to volunteer forΒ lunch and recess coverageΒ throughout October. Whether you can give an hour a week or just one afternoon this month, your presence makes a powerful impact.
What:Β Dads on Duty (Lunch & Recess Supervision)
When:Β Weekdays throughout October (see sign up link below)
Who:Β Fathers, grandfathers, stepdads, and male father figures
How to Join:Β Complete a BISD Volunteer Application & Sign up for your preferred slot using the link below.

Step up, bring your energy, and show our students the power of an engaged father figure.Β
Thank you for making a difference!

The heroes are coming!
Our Apex Leadership Co fundraiser kicks off on Monday, October 26 and this year's theme isΒ Apex Super Heroes. For two full weeks, students will unlock real-life superpowers: steadiness, reliability, uplifting others, and more.Β Β The Roadrunner Dash takes place on Thursday, November 5th (see below for volunteer opportunities!) during student CAMP times.Β
Last year, our Roadrunner Dash raised significant funds toward adding an additional playground sunshade. This year, funds raised will help cover the remaining cost of the sunshade, with any additional funds supporting all other VRES PTO programs and initiatives that benefit our students and staff.Β
