Learning & Growing Day By Day

Roadrunner Families,

Welcome back! We hope everyone had a wonderful, restful Fall Break. Even though it was a short week starting on Wednesday, our students jumped right back into their routines without missing a beat.
  • Welcome Back from Fall Break:Β It was great to see all of our students back on campus on Wednesday! Teachers and staff loved hearing about their break adventures, and everyone is energized for the quarter ahead.
  • Kindergarten & First Grade Book Buddies in the Courtyard:Β Taking advantage of the nice fall weather, our kindergarteners and first graders took their learning outdoors! Students paired up with their "Book Buddies" in the school courtyard for some fresh air and cozy small-group reading time. See the adorable pictures below!
  • Important Back Parking Lot Dismissal Update:Β To ensure the safety of all students, staff, and families during pick-up in the back parking lot,Β vehicles may not enter the bus loop while pedestrians are present. Cones will be placed to direct all traffic to park safely within the parking lot. Thank you in advance for your cooperation, patience, and assistance in keeping our dismissal area safe!
  • Bus Riders:Β If your student rides a bus, please take time this weekend to discuss bus safety and how to appropriately behave on the bus. We have received reports from transportation that our students need additional help in this area. Thank you for helping us make the ride home a smooth and safe one!
Thank you for your continued partnership as we kick off a great second quarter. Have a wonderful weekend!

With gratitude,
Mrs. Walker

batty scientists

Kinder Has Gone Batty!

Our kindergarten scientists became bat experts in the library! πŸ¦‡Β

Students explored how bats fly by using model bats deducting through trial and error how to get them to move through the air without touching the model. Through hands-on exploration, they practiced observing, asking questions, and making discoveries about these fascinating nocturnal animals. Learning is always an adventure in the library. When we explore the wonders of the natural world together!

Nurse Header
Parents - we have seen an early rise in illness across Boerne ISD. We need your help in attempting to prevent the unnecessary spread to other students/families. As a reminder, students will need to be excluded from school when they meet the following criteria in accordance with guidelines from the Texas Department of State Health Services:
  • Fever > 100.3Β° F - may return when fever free for 24 hoursΒ without the use of fever reducing medications
  • Diarrhea - may return after 24 hours without diarrhea
  • Vomiting - may return after 24 hours without vomiting
  • Pink eye - may return when symptom free or when released by medical provider
  • Strep throat - must be on antibiotic for 24 hours and meet fever criteria
In addition, please use your best judgement when it comes to your student. We understand that not all students develop a fever with certain illnesses. If your child is showing signs/symptoms of illness, is not feeling well and/or requires treatment with medication prior to coming to school, we ask you to consider if it will interfere with their instruction time or classroom environment. While instruction time is extremely important, it is also important that your student feel well enough to attend and successfully participate.

Per district policy, If the student is sick at home, the district allows for 5 excused absences for illness by parent note per semester. Anything over 5 "sick" absences from a parent will be unexcused. Excuse notes from a physician will always be considered excused as documented by the physician's return to school date.Β

If a student becomes sick while at school, they need to report to the school nurse. The nurse will determine if the student needs to be excused due to illness. The parent/guardian will be contacted, asked to come and sign out for the student. If the student is sent home by the nurse, the absence is considered excused for the remainder of the day. Subsequent absences will be considered upon the student's return with a parent or doctor's note.

Should the nurse choose to NOT send the student home due to illness, and the parent chooses to sign their student out, the absence is unexcused until a parent's note is received.

Calling All Dads! We Need You on Duty!

This month, we are launching our initiative focused specifically on our fathers, grandfathers, and father figures:Β Dads on Duty.

We are making a dedicated push this October to increase male presence in our hallways, lunchrooms, and playgrounds. Research and experience show that having positive male role models actively involved in the school day boosts student confidence, promotes positive behavior, and shows our kids that their education matters to the men in their lives.

We are looking for dads to volunteer forΒ lunch and recess coverageΒ throughout October. Whether you can give an hour a week or just one afternoon this month, your presence makes a powerful impact.
What:Β Dads on Duty (Lunch & Recess Supervision)
When:Β Weekdays throughout October (see sign up link below)
Who:Β Fathers, grandfathers, stepdads, and male father figures
How to Join:Β Complete a BISD Volunteer Application & Sign up for your preferred slot using the link below.

Step up, bring your energy, and show our students the power of an engaged father figure.Β
