Learning & Growing Day By Day

Roadrunner Families,

October is off to an exciting start! Despite a little wet weather, it was another fantastic week on campus filled with special guests and celebrations.
  • Rainy Day Patience:Β A huge thank you to all of our parents and guardians for your extra patience, caution, and grace during arrival and dismissal in the rain this week. Keeping our students safe is our top priority!
  • Happy National Custodian Day:Β Today, October 2nd, we celebrate our incredible campus custodians! We are so grateful for everything they do behind the scenes every single day to keep our school clean, safe, and welcoming.
  • High School "Book Buddies":Β We loved hosting members of the Champion High School National English Honor Society! These high school mentors visited several of our classrooms as "Book Buddies" to read stories and share their love of reading with our younger students.
  • Surprise Attendance Day "Pod Party":Β We held our very first surprise attendance recognition day! Students were celebrated for attending school today with a fun, high-energy "Pod Party" alongside their classmates.
UPDATES & REMINDERS:
  • Safety & Fire Prevention Week:Β Next week our campus will focus on safety measures and drills. Each day students will participate in a different drill from our Standard Response Protocol (SRP). The Leon Springs VFD will be on campus Tuesday through Thursday to speak with students on Fire Prevention. Invite your student to share what they have learned and practice at home daily! The SRP K12 Parent Handout is linked below. Everyone is also invited to attend National Night Out on Tuesday from 5-8 PM at Boerne's Main Plaza to connect with local first responders!
  • Routine late arrivals and early checkouts create early habits for our young leaders that have a significant impact on their education for years to come. Please make it a priority to minimize the amount of time your student is out from instruction by arriving on time and allowing them to finish out the instructional day.Β
I hope everyone enjoys the Fall weather this weekend! Stay safe and dry!

With gratitude,
Mrs. Walker

Nurse Header
Parents - we have seen an early rise in illness across Boerne ISD. We need your help in attempting to prevent the unnecessary spread to other students/families. As a reminder, students will need to be excluded from school when they meet the following criteria in accordance with guidelines from the Texas Department of State Health Services:
  • Fever > 100.3Β° F - may return when fever free for 24 hoursΒ without the use of fever reducing medications
  • Diarrhea - may return after 24 hours without diarrhea
  • Vomiting - may return after 24 hours without vomiting
  • Pink eye - may return when symptom free or when released by medical provider
  • Strep throat - must be on antibiotic for 24 hours and meet fever criteria
In addition, please use your best judgement when it comes to your student. We understand that not all students develop a fever with certain illnesses. If your child is showing signs/symptoms of illness, is not feeling well and/or requires treatment with medication prior to coming to school, we ask you to consider if it will interfere with their instruction time or classroom environment. While instruction time is extremely important, it is also important that your student feel well enough to attend and successfully participate.

Per district policy, If the student is sick at home, the district allows for 5 excused absences for illness by parent note per semester. Anything over 5 "sick" absences from a parent will be unexcused. Excuse notes from a physician will always be considered excused as documented by the physician's return to school date.Β

If a student becomes sick while at school, they need to report to the school nurse. The nurse will determine if the student needs to be excused due to illness. The parent/guardian will be contacted, asked to come and sign out for the student. If the student is sent home by the nurse, the absence is considered excused for the remainder of the day. Subsequent absences will be considered upon the student's return with a parent or doctor's note.

Should the nurse choose to NOT send the student home due to illness, and the parent chooses to sign their student out, the absence is unexcused until a parent's note is received.

Calling All Dads! We Need You on Duty!

This month, we are launching our initiative focused specifically on our fathers, grandfathers, and father figures:Β Dads on Duty.

We are making a dedicated push this October to increase male presence in our hallways, lunchrooms, and playgrounds. Research and experience show that having positive male role models actively involved in the school day boosts student confidence, promotes positive behavior, and shows our kids that their education matters to the men in their lives.

We are looking for dads to volunteer forΒ lunch and recess coverageΒ throughout October. Whether you can give an hour a week or just one afternoon this month, your presence makes a powerful impact.
What:Β Dads on Duty (Lunch & Recess Supervision)
When:Β Weekdays throughout October (see sign up link below)
Who:Β Fathers, grandfathers, stepdads, and male father figures
How to Join:Β Complete a BISD Volunteer Application & Sign up for your preferred slot using the link below.

Step up, bring your energy, and show our students the power of an engaged father figure.Β
Thank you for making a difference!
